A privately managed Build to rent, Traces is located in Surry Hills and has already been the catalyst with rejuvenating this locale.
Transforming a previous warehouse into 20 apartments, the exterior architecture by MHNDU was eye catching and a striking palette of natural materials.
With an open core at the centre of the design, residents were met with blue skies upon opening their front door and the rooftop garden and greenery was a welcome break out space.
The inclusion of ventilation within the apartment design plus skylights ensured bountiful natural light and a welcome place to reside in a much-desired location.
The inclusion of retail and services on the ground level added to the vibrancy and certainly created a precinct that was welcoming and added to the streetscape.
Samantha Reece, CEO of AAA stated that the judges had been highly impressed with the striking architecture and its optimisation of the site.
“This is a prime example of delicate density and the placement on a corner block allowed for the creation of a laneway for vehicle access to the carpark ensured minimal impact on what is already a very busy thoroughfare,” Samantha said.
“The use of natural brick, whitewash and black corrugated steel leant the development a sense of presence and was very pleasing on the eye.
“These developments are excellent examples of how a project which can accommodate 20 families, can be nestled into a typical street and yet create a bookend and sense of arrival.
“Congratulations to the team at MHNDU for this exemplar project.”
