Make Room trumps the awards

Samantha Reece

A re-purposed heritage listed CBD Archive building to provide 50 apartments for the homeless, with 24/7 wrap around services has taken home four awards at the Apartment Awards for Excellence including Pioneering, Judges Award, Civic Leadership and Heritage and Community Culture.

A joint initiative with i2C Architects, City of Melbourne and Unison Housing, the Judges said the winners demonstrated outstanding leadership and if every council was to follow suit, collectively we could address homelessness on a national scale.

“To take the most vulnerable and provide them with a safe place so that they may gain respect, recover and blossom is highly commendable," AAA CEO stated.

"This site was severely constrained and yet the City championed this much needed care facility and the commitment is remarkable."
